📝 Title: Buying Groups: New Delivery Process — Direct Fulfillment
Created by: Katie | Feedback from: Rafa, Michael, Brooklawn, Pebrian
🐞 Problem
Many DMI clients near the DMI warehouse are low-volume (a few orders/day). DMI charges ~$15 per item to deliver to the dealer’s store, so these dealers don’t use DMI delivery. Their real-world process is:
Take the order → 2) Next day swing by the DMI warehouse → 3) Pick up the item → 4) Deliver to the customer.
Our current PO/receiving/delivery flow doesn’t support this.
⚠️ Why is this a problem
The platform requires items to be received into the dealer warehouse before delivery can be scheduled.
Drivers can’t start routes until items are scanned out, but these items aren’t received first in this workflow.
Current workaround is to train drivers to use a scanner gun at pickup to scan out, which is clunky.
Most orders originate on the website, so adding a customer-facing “Direct Fulfillment” option is not desired.
✅ Solution
Use the existing PO flow to notify DMI, then enable delivery scheduling and a simplified scan step for this scenario.
Keep PO step: Dealer requests the item from DMI and creates a purchase order so DMI is notified.
Side note: Katie will call Rob to confirm what DMI actually does upon PO notification (e.g., reserve/set aside). Katie will fill this in later.
Allow immediate scheduling: After submitting the PO, the dealer must be able to schedule delivery immediately, even if the item has not been received.
One-step scan action: Add a single button labeled for Direct Fulfillment that performs the required scan-in and scan-out in one action so the delivery can proceed without the normal receive → scan-out sequence.
Driver start condition: Ensure this one-step action allows drivers to start their route for these orders without using the scanner gun at warehouse pickup.
🧪 Acceptance Criteria (scope-limited to the above)
After PO submission to DMI, the delivery scheduler opens/works without a receive event.
A Direct Fulfillment button completes the scan-in + scan-out together for the affected items.
With that button used, the driver app allows route start for those items (no scanner-gun workaround needed).
No new customer-facing delivery option is added on the website for this.
