Category-based delivery pricing for different appliance types

We work with third-party delivery partners who charge different rates depending on the type of appliance. For example, sending a refrigerator across town costs us more than sending a microwave, even though both use the exact same delivery method.

Right now in Delivery Options, we can only set one price per delivery option. That means if we want to reflect real-world costs, we end up duplicating delivery methods just to handle different price tiers per category. We get things like:

  • “Standard Delivery – Refrigerator”

  • “Standard Delivery – Microwave”

  • “Standard Delivery – Laundry”

This clutters our setup, makes it harder for staff to pick the right option, and increases the chances of errors.

We do see the “Applies To” configuration, but that’s only good for deciding which products can use a delivery option (by model, brand, or category). It doesn’t actually let us charge different prices per category under the same option, which is what we really need.

Example

Say we have a delivery option called “Standard Delivery (3–5 days)” with a base price of $79.

In reality, we need:

  • Refrigerators: $119

  • Dishwashers: $99

  • Microwaves: $49

Today, the only way to do this is to create three separate delivery options, all with the same name or slightly modified names, which becomes confusing for both staff and customers.

What we’d really like is:

  • Keep one “Standard Delivery (3–5 days)” option

  • Set category-specific prices for Refrigerators, Dishwashers, Microwaves, etc.

  • If no special price is set for a category, it just uses the base price

So when a fridge is delivered, the system automatically uses the fridge price; when a microwave is delivered, it uses the microwave price — all under one clean delivery option.

What we’re asking for

We’d love the product to:

  1. Allow us to define different delivery prices per appliance category within a single delivery option.

  2. Keep the existing eligibility rules as they are (model/brand/category filters still decide which products can use that option).

  3. Automatically use a category-specific price when it exists, and fall back to the base delivery price when it doesn’t.

  4. Clearly indicate when category-based pricing is active for a delivery option, so it’s obvious to admins that some categories are using override prices.

In short: please let us set category-based delivery pricing overrides under each delivery option, while keeping “Applies To” focused on eligibility.
