Allow Tax Override on Line Items

Dealers can now manually control the taxable status of individual line items directly from Quotes and Orders.

A new Allow tax override on line items setting is available under Sales Tax Settings. When enabled, users can mark eligible standard catalog items as taxable or non-taxable, giving dealers more flexibility to handle tax requirements that may vary by product or customer situation.

What’s New

  • New account setting: Administrators can enable Allow tax override on line items under Sales Tax Settings.

  • Standard items: Once enabled, standard catalog items can be manually marked as taxable or non-taxable from the Quote or Order.

  • Custom items: Custom line items continue to support taxability selection as before.

  • Tax-exempt customers: Tax override is automatically disabled when the customer is marked as tax exempt.

  • Built-in appliances: The default taxability follows the existing Built-in Appliance Tax setting and can be overridden when applicable.

  • Related charges: Protection plans and fulfillment charges continue to follow the taxable status of their associated product based on the existing tax rules.

Important to Know

  • The feature is disabled by default. Administrators must enable it before standard line items can use tax override.

  • When disabled, the existing tax behavior remains unchanged.

  • Existing Quotes keep their previously saved taxability values if the account setting is later changed.

  • Tax override controls are hidden for existing line items after a Quote is converted to an Order or once an item has been paid. Newly added Order line items can still use the override when applicable.

  • This feature provides manual taxability control; it does not automatically determine state, county, or local tax requirements.
